Our Mission

  • The mission of our program is to ensure students learning English engage in the full array of educational programs and services offered by °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÀúÊ·¼Ç¼.

The work of accomplishing this mission is outlined by the following core beliefs, which are based on current research demonstrating how students acquire academic language in school settings.

  • Newcomer Instructional Needs

  • Core Content Scaffolding Support

  • Language as an Asset

  • Student Progress & Program Evaluation

  • In order to accomplish our mission, the ELL Program has adapted a specific range of delivery models that focus on the needs of individual students at their current stage of English language acquisition. These models include:

    • English Language Development instruction for Newcomers and Beginning English learners

    • Core Content Scaffolding Support

    • Newcomer Secondary Course offerings

    • Co-Teaching in core content courses

    • Secondary Sheltered Content Transitional Course offerings

Secondary level Newcomer Academy Classes 6-12

  • Language arts, social studies, math and science courses are available to students who are new to English and U.S. schools. These courses are designed to advance students’ English language skills, meet their academic needs and allow them to earn necessary credits for graduation. The instruction is designed to provide a bridge to regular middle or high school classes. The ELL courses are taught by certificated teachers trained in these content areas.
